The Saddleworth area accounts for approximately half of the land to the east of the Borough, comprising of open countryside, river valleys and the villages of Denshaw, Delph, Dobcross, Diggle, Uppermill and Greenfield plus the more heavily populated Scouthead, Austerlands, Friezland, Grasscroft, Lydgate, Grotton and Springhead. First Bus runs frequent services through Lees, Oldham Town Centre, Hollinwood and Failsworth into Manchester City Centre. Access to the M62 is via Junction 22 close to the village of Denshaw.
Most homes in these rural locations will be within walking distance of local shops, however, a Tesco store can be found in Greenfield.
Within Saddleworth are many places of interest, Churchill Playing Fields is an area of open space between Greenfield and Uppermill used for a range of sporting and community events. Brownhill Countryside Centre has a number of attractions, whilst Friezland offers a public horse riding arena. Dove Stone Reservoir also forms part of the Peak District National Park offering access to moorland with breathtaking views. The Huddersfield Narrow Canal runs through the villages of Diggle, Uppermill, Greenfield. Saddleworth Pool and Leisure Centre offers outstanding facilities within the village of Uppermill.
